This post is an update on The Ultimate Loremaster Experiment.
I finished Darkshore. Blaidd is 23. Here are his stats at the moment:
- Played = 10 hours, 20 minutes, 54 seconds
- Funds = 9G 40S 21C
- Item Level = 11
- Achievements = 5 new for 50 points (80 total) (100 Quests Completed, Level 20, Giddy Up!, Explore Darkshore, Darkshore Quests)
- Reputation = Honored with Darnassus (11138/12000)
I had one nice surprise during this. I haven’t bought the base riding skill since my main hit 40 several years ago. If I remember correctly, it cost close to 100G to get the skill and the mount. I wasn’t going to need a mount but I would need the skill.
I was pretty confident the price changed when they lowered the level requirement from 40 to 20. However, I wasn’t sure how much it would cost. If it was 10G, I wasn’t going to be able to afford it when I hit 20. Of course, I could have looked it up but decided to just keep leveling and deal with it when I got there.
I kept checking my gold as I got closer to 20 hoping I would have at least 10G. However, as soon as I hit 20 the Giddy Up! achievement popped! Nice! I didn’t have to spend any money on it or the mount!
Of course, if I had done more research when I picked worgen, I would not have been surprised. Worgen have a racial ability called Running Wild instead of faction mounts. This ability grants worgen the first riding skill automatically when they hit 20. So that’s 4G (yes, I did finally look it up) saved on accident. Works for me.
Something else that struck me as I worked my way through Darkshore was how well Blizzard made the Cataclysm feel significant. I did a lot of the original quests here on my main. It was a bit emotional seeing places like Auberdine destroyed. I definitely makes me excited to see the rest of the zones.
One other thing I was able to do is kill some rares. I don’t know if it was because I’ve been playing early in the morning or because no one is in Darkshore right now. Either way, I killed these four.
Next, I’m moving on to Bloodmyst Isle. This is where the real experiment begins. At level 23, I am 10-12 levels higher than the mobs I will be killing for the initial quests in the zone. So I will only be getting experience from the actual quests, not from the mobs. It will be interesting to see what level I am when I’m done.
