This post is part of my FPS Blitz.
I’m sitting at 7 hours played in Crysis 2. From what I can tell, I’m half-way through. And I have to say, it has definitely been worth it!
I have to admit, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect with Crysis. From what I had seen, I expected it to be a military shooter like Call of Duty or Homefront. I don’t even really know what made me interested in it.
I love shooters that make you feel powerful. Even in something like Half-Life, where you play a nerdy scientist, you feel like you can take on the world. And it’s a good thing because you normally have to.
The only military shooter I’ve played through at this point is Homefront. It was one of my biggest disappointments of last year. Part of my problem with it was how it made you feel like an extra, not a main character. I just didn’t feel powerful in that game.
So I came into Crysis 2 thinking it would be similar. The gun play gave me that impression. And I got that feeling when I started up the game on a submarine as part of a military team. Then:
Man, that video got me pumped! And the game has delivered on it.
I have to say, Crysis 2 is not what I expected. It feels much more like Half-Life than Call of Duty. I’m really enjoying the story so far.
The gameplay is pretty cool as well. I have to admit, stealth mode feels a bit like a get-out-of-jail-free card. I found a sniper rifle pretty early, which has allowed me to do most of my killing behind cover.
I’m playing a lot more stealth than I thought I would. It’s pretty much stealth –> get behind cover –> zoom in –> shoot –> get behind cover and wait for my energy to recover –> stealth and repeat. I wouldn’t think I would enjoy that as much as I am.
My goal is to finish it by the end of the week. I want to spend some time with Far Cry 2 before the release schedule starts to get crazy on September 18th. I’ll let you know what I think when I’m done.
